How to prepare documents for printing

Films for screen enlightenment Brno

This guide is intended for graphic designers and studios who are preparing final documents for production of printing templates (so-called films) for classic screen printing. It's not a preview of the design on the T-shirt, but a technical data for colour separation.

What do we require?

  • Each colour separately
Separate each colour into separate pages PDF. For example, a two-colour theme = a two-page PDF where each page contains only one colour.
  • All in black
Prepare the data in black and white:
    Black = what is printed
White or blank = not printed
Don't worry about the actual colors of the motif, we determine those based on what we are going to print.
  • Vector or bitmap - both are OK
It doesn't have to be a vector. Just a bitmap, but:
    - Minimum 300 dpi
In 100% real sizein which it will be printed
    - File format
    - Ideally multipage PDF
    - Each page = one colour
    - No transparencies, shadows, effects or colour layers
    - Trim marks and fallout
    - Add crop marks
  • If you are printing all the way to the edge (e.g. for posters), add 3 mm drop from all sides

Don't send:

  • Design in colours without separation
  • Thumbnails, mockups, background documents
  • Incomplete PSD/AI files without split layers
